Sweden's softwood sawlog supply reached the lowest level in December since 2017

Sweden's softwood sawlog inventories stood at 2.8 million m³ by December 31sr 2024, showing a 2% decline from 2023 and 13% below the 5-year average.

Total roundwood stocks, covering sawlogs, pulpwood, and pulp chips, increased to 8.3 million m³, marking a 13% rise from 2023 but 2% lower than the 5-year average.

Pulpwood stocks saw a 19% increase year-on-year, reaching 4.5 million m³, and pulp chip stocks surged by 44%, reaching 1 million m³.

Softwood pulpwood inventories grew by 20% from December 2023 to 3.7 million m³, although they remained 4% under the 5-year average.

Hardwood pulpwood stocks expanded by 15% compared to last year, surpassing 0.8 million m³, which is 24% above the 5-year average.

In balance area 3, softwood sawlog stocks grew by 44% from 2023, exceeding the 5-year average by 22%.

In contrast, softwood sawlog inventories in balance area 4 fell 18% from the previous year, standing 24% lower than the five-year average.

Softwood pulpwood stocks rose in all areas except balance area 2, where they held steady, while hardwood pulpwood stocks climbed across all regions except balance area 2, where they decreased by 15%.
