US hardwoods export to India grew by $12.22 million in 2021 despite global lumber shortages

- In 2021, the total value of American hardwood lumber, logs, and veneer exported to India hit $12.22 million despite global lumber shortages, uncertainty in freight rates and availability of containers, and growing prices across all species.
- The total hardwood lumber shipped from the US to India grew by 292% in value to $6.5 million, up from $1.66 million in 2020, and by 288% in volume to 11,109m3, up from 2,863 m3 in 2020.
- At the same time, direct exports of American hardwood veneers to the market grew by 9% to $2.69 million.
- The value and volume of logs exported to India fell by 3% to $3.03 million and by 18% to 5,411 m3 respectively.
- The top five American hardwood species exported were hickory, white oak, red alder, red oak, and ash.
