Carbon Intensity Indicator (CII) rule to lower container vessel capacity by 10%
Posted on November 8, 2022 |
- The CII rating scheme is set to come into force next year which will allocate different ratings to ships based on their efficiency ratio, travel distance, speed, and the number of times the vessel has been used in the carrier's fleet.
- Ships are rated from A to E based on their energy efficiency over one year, with evaluations beginning in 2023.
- Vessel owners must create a Ship Energy Efficiency Management Plan Part III (SEEMP Part III), outlining how they will comply with CII regulation.
- The CII regulations fail to consider wider factors which include short notice in preparing the plans, and external impacts on a ship’s performance such as congestion in ports.
