Shanghai port's congestion back to normal after two months of lockdown as waiting time shrunk to 28 hours

- The average waiting times for tankers, bulkers, and containerships in Shanghai prolonged to 66 hours in late April but the waiting times have now shrunk to 28 hours, which is an hour longer than the top end of the range seen at this time of year over the past 3 years.
- The length of box ship calls to the port of Shanghai was unaffected by the lockdown in the city and the ongoing congestion in the area and comparing May 2022 to May 2021, the monthly average grew by 6.9% but the number of port calls from container vessels to Shanghai in these two periods fell by 16% to 1,062.
- Currently, there are 29 ships en route from Shanghai to Los Angeles and Long Beach with a total carrying capacity of 225,000 TEU.
